Who is Abel Toth?

Abel Toth is 29 years old who works full-time in IT and is mostly self-taught in design. He creates “highly detailed automotive vector images” artwork that ‘pops’ under the Printlane banner and has been interested in digital arts for about 15 years now. Having started out with photo manipulating he gradually worked his way towards design/illustration which when combined that with my passion for motorsports, especially F1 makes for a rather time-consuming, albeit very fun hobby.

How it all began.

In 2019, Abel moved into a new apartment that was completely empty, apart from the obvious furniture and realized that he really wanted some motorsport related wall art in the living room to make his new home truly his own. After spending hours searching for the kind of art that he had imagined in his head, Abel hit a dead end. Having a few years of experience in designing logos with Adobe Illustrator, as part of a side-gig, he got into the “if you want to do it right, you have to do it yourself” mindset and decided to take things into his own hands. A few weeks later, his Ferrari SF90 passion project was complete and after printing it out, he posted it on the Formula-1 subreddit (because, why not?). He was then pleasantly surprised with how well it was received and even more surprised when people started reaching out to him asking how they could get their hands on a copy. And that is how he got into the business of creating and selling motorsport art prints

Abel's motivation and inspiration.

In terms of motivation and inspiration, Abel says that since he enjoys creating his art so much, when he has the time to work on them, he usually has the motivation too. He derives inspiration mostly from obsessing over F1, watching it live or from looking at photos. Stories and legends about old racecars and drivers too, he says, serve as worthy sources of Inspiration. His background in graphic design also helps as he follows several artists on social media platforms and thinks about ways to integrate styles that particularly strike him with scenarios or objects from the F1 world: the cars, for example.

When Abel was introduced to F1 as a kid, he immediately became a Hakkinen fan and naturally Raikkönen after him. In the recent years he has dug deeper into F1’s rich history and can’t help but be amazed at what Jim Clark was able to achieve in such a short time. We asked him if he’d had the opportunity to meet famous drivers and racers to which he replied that sadly, he hadn’t. From all the stories we have heard from our artists and their encounter with their idols, these interactions usually take place around the art itself and we hope that Abel get the opportunity to meet his favorite racers soon.

Hearing back from his fans about how much they love the posters after delivery makes Abel’s whole week. In terms of a quote that he deeply resonates with he begins with the infamous Senna quote “If you no longer go for the gap…” but chooses to go with the Bruce McLaren quote “To do something well is so worthwhile that to die trying to do it better cannot be foolhardy. It would be a waste of life to do nothing with one’s ability, for I feel that life is measured in achievement, not in years alone.”. The second half of the quote he says he finds inspirational for life in general and not just motorsports. He also looks up to David Attenborough who seems like a “top bloke”. We think so too!

Abel has big plans for the future. Since his portfolio right now consists mostly of F1 stuff, he intends to widen that range to encompass other motorsport as well and even some very special road cars. He is also working on improving his hand drawing skills which he jokingly says that even a 9-year-old can surpass. Abel says that he joined the GPBox primarily because of the ease it offered over managing and updating his own website. He has no complaints about his experience as part of the GPBox family and plans to grow while sharing the knowledge he gains along the way.
