NOW SOLD -1977 Mario Andretti Lotus JPS full top cowl

Something historic and very special.
This is the top full cowl from the 1977 JPS Lotus (Lotus 77) driven by World Champion Mario Andretti. In this season the Lotus had 3 types of top cowl. This is the mk2 and believed to be the only one that exists in the world.

During his career, Andretti won the 1978 Formula One World Championship, four IndyCar titles (three under USAC-sanctioning, one under CART), and IROC VI. To date, he remains the only driver ever to win the Indianapolis 500 (1969), Daytona 500 (1967) and the Formula One World Championship, and, along with Juan Pablo Montoya, the only driver to have won a race in the NASCAR Cup Series, Formula One, and an Indianapolis 500.

No American has won a Formula One race since Andretti's victory at the 1978 Dutch Grand Prix. Andretti had 109 career wins on major circuits.

If it looks a little familiar that's because the car was in the F1 film Rush which was all about the rivalry between the James Hunt and Niki Lauda. In fact the film crew had to make a mock up of the Lotus to represent this spec. This is the real thing and a historical item. Really should be in a motorsports museaum. This is an incredible item and would look fantastic displayed. It is used and certainly shows signs of this with paint bubbles, scratches and marks on the fibreglass cowl.
**PLEASE NOTE**[Removed]'s car. Notice the "r" in the word player and "al" in the word special. You will see these have been Re painted on the hand painted logos of the car. Probably Re painted by a mechanic after it was damaged. This can also be seen on picture 2 of the cowl now which helps with its authenticity.
Pictures 8 onwards are of a mint condition 1976 Brands Hatch British grand prix program which features the car with even another picture of the car with the cowl on it and Andretti in it.
Fantastic provenance for this iconic F1 item.

This is a museaum item that a very lucky F1 Lotus or Andretti collector could own. Items like this do not come onto the market very often.
With this in mind I may consider sensible offers for this sensational item.
