Porsche 935/K3 Apple - Bobby Rahal (USA), Allan Moffat (AUS) and Bob Garretson (USA)

Steve Jobs responded to the invitation from Dick Barbour Racing in 1980, the year the American team put the remarkable Porsche 935 Kremer on the track, a car in which it specialized. Based in San Diego, California, the team is looking for funding. The saving call comes from Cupertino, where Steve Jobs, aged 25, is seeking to increase the visibility of his young company, Apple. Before the company's IPO in December 1980, Jobs seized the opportunity for a dynamic and unusual program for his firm: Barbour's Porsche featured Apple's iconic colors.

The result is a clean livery, featuring multi-colored horizontal stripes on a white background, reminiscent of the iconic Apple logo used by the brand between 1976 and 1998. Jobs took this unique opportunity to promote his brand during one of the events most publicized world championships on television: the 24 hours of Le Mans.

Beyond Le Mans, the 1980 campaign also took place on the American continent, in IMSA. The Apple livery, worn exclusively on chassis number[Removed]0, ultimately has a short lifespan: one season and seven races.

At Le Mans, the Porsche 935K bearing the Apple logo is number 71, with Bobby Rahal (United States), Allan Moffat (Australia) and Bob Garretson (United States) at the wheel. However, the adventure was cut short on the Le Mans circuit, the retirement occurring on the 134th lap due to a seized piston which destroyed all hope. The crew was then in eighth position in the general classification.
